︎ FREEDOM AS OF NY
This is one of my series documenting New York City street scenes. As a New Yorker just starting her life in the city, I have gained my own understanding of it. However, at the same time, I constantly feel alien to the city and struggle to fit in. This series is my way to explore the lives of New Yorkers or Americans writ large. These photos capture the easily ignored, everyday cliches of the streets of New York, reflecting the fast pace of life in the city and the problems that follow, but most importantly, they have put forward my interpretation of American people's tireless but flawed pursuit of freedom. I feel like that only as an outsider could I have observed New York with such an intimate but estranged point of view.
“自由之于纽约”是我对纽约城市风景观察的系列中的一个。我作为刚在纽约开启了生活的新纽约客，对于这座城市有了自己的理解但也时常感到陌生、格格不入。“自由之于纽约”通过对纽约街头景观的记录探讨了纽约客乃至于美国社会生活的一角。这些图像捕捉了纽约街头常见但却常常被忽视的细节，反映了纽约极快的生活节奏以及由此带来的城市问题，更是反映了我的理解中美国人对于自由不懈却带有瑕疵的追求。我感觉正是我作为一个“外人”的身份才为我打开了这种亲密又疏离的观察纽约的视角。
